Jaguar Land Rover Top Trumps

About

Jaguar Land Rover Top Trumps app was launched in 2018 firstly to accommodate the brand interaction during Goodwood Festival, where users could play against each other (by geolocation) or against the machine and receive a physical package of Top Trumps in the tents.

The game mechanic was similar to the one we played as kid, but one brand versus the other. In other words, a Jaguar would be competing against a Land Rover vehicle.

Brief

In order to enlarge the success of the previous year, Top Trumps in 2019 needed to revamp the app ultimately to achieve the main following goals:

  • split the brands to play: Jaguar vehicles would be competing against another Jaguar vehicle and it goes the same way to Land Rover.

  • amplify the app to be used in different festivals

  • allow users to request their Jaguar Land Rover Top Trumps via post when the festival is not live.

  • enable users to collect their Jaguar Land Rover at the tents with QR Code on the app (Festival Mechanic)

Solution

  • rebrand interface structure for navigation, flow and interaction

  • recreate the app flow to accommodate Top Trumps cards to be delivered via post when festivals were off and enable QR Code to collect cards when festivals were on

  • rearrange registration flow for under 18 (terms for prize collections)

My Role

I was responsible for recreating mechanic of the game along with wireframes to assess the need to add more screens, the skeleton of the interaction and mapping out the new flow (with festival vs without festival).

Mapping method

While mapping the game and outlining its mechanics and flows, a wireflow was defined because it would:

  • the app map as a whole, appliance for each and every scenario (conditions to be: under 18 vs above 18, registration, walkthrough / tutorial in the game, festival vs non festival)

  • skeleton view of the wireframes

  • categorize screens as new, maintain or small fixes (red label, no label, blue label, respectively)

  • enables the team to oversee the categories of the screens

  • change the flow as needed

This method has smooth the path for everyone in the team to onboarding stage to presentation stage for client view.

Festival Journeys

Wireframes and final documentations

As part of the journey, reaching to the HOME containing the brands splits was one of the main takeouts.

Finally, wireframes were to conduct the documentation to UI and copywriters - as well as dev team, but ultimately to describe the interaction between the screens and its peculiarities.
